Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Treatments Aid in Healing Injuries
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injection treatments utilize the patient’s own blood to heal damaged tissue and reduce pain. Platelets are blood structures essential to clotting and wound healing, releasing factors that stimulate cell growth and division. Without platelets, tissue repair cannot take place. Your body naturally produces growth factors in response to injury, and those growth factors influence nearly every stage of wound healing.
To prepare for the PRP treatment, our clinic technician extracts the patient’s blood and then uses special equipment in our lab to separate the platelets during a process called centrifugation. The concentration of platelets is combined with the remaining blood for precise, targeted injection into the damaged tissue.
The high density platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is as high as 5 to 10 times richer than typical blood, with the result being an extremely high amount of growth factors. When we send these growth factors by injection directly to the site of an injury, a powerful healing process takes place.
Dr. Payson Flattery is known throughout Bend as the expert in PRP injection treatments for injury repair and pain relief, as he pioneered the technique in this region in the early 2000s and has since treated thousands.
