In many cases pain originates from hyperirritable nodules or “knots” in muscles, tendons, or ligaments called trigger points. A trigger point generally causes local pain but may also result in pain referred to a distant site. Specific muscles/tendons and ligaments have specific patterns of referred pain. Trigger point pain is one of the most common types of pain incurred and is largely ignored by conventional physicians. Dr. Flattery is trained in these referral patterns and can effectively manage pain originating from trigger points. Trigger points are treated with the injection of procaine a local anesthetic into the hyper irritated nodule causing a relaxation of tissue and a restoration of normal function.
