Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression, or non-surgical spinal decompression therapy, has proven effective at relieving pain from spinal disc injuries, including bulging and herniated discs, pinched nerves, and other injuries that cause back, neck¸ and limb pain. Many people experience pain when injuries or repetitive stress cause their vertebrae to compress the discs in between the vertebrae.

Compressed or bulging discs can be excruciating, and often the body tightens the muscles around the injury in an attempt to stabilize the spine—causing additional pain. Spinal decompression pulls the vertebrae apart slightly, which pulls the disc back into place and relieves pain and pressure.

During spinal decompression, you are strapped to a decompression table. We then use a computer to move the table in a way that targets the exact area of your injury or discomfort. You will experience short periods of extremely gentle spinal stretching, followed by short periods of rest. Over time, complete healing of the disc can occur, eliminating pain and giving you back your quality of life.

The Center for Integrated Medicine offers spinal decompression in addition to other chiropractic and physical therapy services. Spinal decompression is safe and effective, and it has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of back pain.
